CRISPR-Cas9
"Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats - CRISPR Associated Protein 9"
It is a gene editing technology that has revolutionized the field of biotechnology. It uses a bacterial enzyme, CAS9, which can be programmed to recognize and cut specific sequences of DNA. This allows for the precise editing of genes without damaging surrounding cells. It can be used to treat a variety of diseases including cancer, HIV, and inherited genetic disorders.
Stem Cells
Stem cells are an important tool in medical research and therapy. They are able to differentiate into specialized cell types, offering potential treatments for a variety of diseases. Stem cell therapy has been used in the treatment of cancer, Parkinson's disease, spinal cord injuries, and other conditions. CAR-T
"Chimeric Antigen Receptor - T Cell Receptor"
It is a form of immunotherapy that involves the modification of a patient’s own T cells to recognize and fight existing cancer or other diseases. In this form of treatment, a patient's T cells are collected from their blood and modified in the laboratory with special receptors known as chimeric antigen receptors (CARs). The modified T cells, now known as CAR-T cells, are then reinfused into the patient's body.
Protein Targeted
Protein-targeted therapeutics is a type of molecular medicine that focuses on targeting specific proteins in the body to treat diseases. By selectively blocking, modulating, or activating certain proteins, these therapies can affect biological pathways and lead to therapeutic benefits. This is useful for treating chronic conditions such as cancer, autoimmune diseases, and neurological disorders. Examples include monoclonal antibodies, protein-based small molecules, aptamers, and engineered proteins known as fusion proteins.
RNA Targeted
RNA-targeted therapeutics provide a promising approach that can help address the limitations of existing treatments. Currently, there are two main types of RNA-targeted therapies being developed: small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) and messenger RNA activators (mRNAs). siRNAs are short pieces of double-stranded RNA that selectively silence genes, while mRNAs directly upregulate gene expression. Both approaches have the potential to revolutionize the treatment of a variety of diseases, including genetic disorders and cancer.
Biosimilars
Biosimilars or Biobetters are biological therapies that are developed to be highly similar, though not identical, to an already referenced drug. As they are produced by a different manufacturer than the originator of the reference drug, they must undergo comprehensive analytical and clinical studies in order to prove safety, quality, and efficacy with comparable characteristics to their reference drug. Following regulatory approval, biosimilars can be used to treat a wide range of diseases, enabling wider access to treatments for patients at lower costs.
